I'm excited to drop the Sentences Update! With this update, you’ll find new sentence minigame exercises and a sentence breakdown view that shows you exactly what each part of a sentence means.

Forget textbook sentences like “Ella does not like apples” — with Coupling, your partner picks sentences that are personal to you and your life.

🧩 Introducing Sentence Exercises

🔀 Brand New Sentence Shuffle Minigame

Blend some new notes into your Grinds with the new Sentence Shuffle Minigame , featuring sentences handpicked and crafted by your partner.

Your job is to shuffle the sentence parts into the right order. You’ll get hints about what each part means, so you can focus on figuring out the structure. Parts are color-coded based on parts of speech to make it even easier.

My favorite part actually happens when I get these wrong! Coupling highlights mistakes: totally wrong parts turn red, and chunks that are partly right but misplaced get a yellow warning. This way, it’s easy to see where you slipped up. Plus, the correct pieces are saved, so you don’t have to start from scratch!

words, then learn the sentence!

❎ Learn Words in Context With Fill-in-the-Blanks

Coupling’s got your back with fill-in-the-blank exercises!

For example, if you're learning the word coffee, and you have a sentence "I drink coffee at the cafe", Coupling Cafe will generates an exercise "I drink `____` at the cafe" that challenges you to recall the word “coffee”.

These exercises are a perfect bridge between learning individual words and absorbing full sentences. While you can see the whole sentence, you're only tasked with filling in the individual word. This helps you familiarizing yourself with the words in their natural context, rather than memorizing them in isolation.

The sentences you receive aren’t random—they’re personalized to you and your learning journey, written by the one who knows you best: your partner. The fun part? Since your partner is writing them, each sentence becomes a surprise!

Unlike other language apps, your content is tied to things you care about: your hobbies, interests, and curiosities.

With a Café Membership, things get even better! Our AI helps your partner come up with sentences that incorporate words you’ve recently learned. It’s a super smart way to reinforce what you already know and make those new words feel like second nature.

By practicing sentences that incorporate words you know, you’ll experience a smoother progression. Each new sentence builds on what you’ve learned, allowing you to use and connect vocabulary in ways that reflect real-life communication. This smart, tailored approach is something no other app offers—it’s language learning that grows with you!

🛠️ Breakdowns: Understanding Sentences, Word by Word

Ever get taught a sentence and think, Wait, what do all these words mean? With Sentence Breakdowns, that confusion is gone. Coupling automatically breaks down each sentence into smaller parts, explaining what each word or phrase means. You’ll see how everything fits together, piece by piece.

Even better, you’ll know if you’ve already learned any of the words. If you’re missing any, just add them to your deck right from the breakdown! It’s like building your vocabulary while mastering real sentences.

🃏 Collect All the Words

Think of each sentence like a challenge—can you collect all the words? If you’re missing any, you can add them right from the Sentence Breakdown. The sentence won’t show up in minigames until you’ve learned the individual words, so you’re always progressing at the right pace. It’s a fun, organic way to learn—first the words, then the full sentence!

📋 Release Notes

A ton of bug fixes and improvements, here are the main ones:

• Added Custom Specialty Brews, available with Cafe Membership

• Added additional translations sources from OpenAI

• Visual refreshes of many parts of the Coupling Cafe app

• Continued speed improvements for a smoother experience

• Allow edit of Brew vocabulary

• Added ability to add sentences to your deck via the Add Card screen

• Added warnings if you're potentially adding a duplicate word

• Handle if the phone goes offline or server goes down

What’s next after learning words and sentences? Conversations! I’m excited to start working on Chit Chats—conversation starters you’ll unlock after finishing a Brew. You and your partner will be able to chat using the language you’re learning, and you’ll get AI support to help you along the way.

With Chit Chats, you’ll practice speaking or writing complete thoughts with your partner's guidance, while having fun and learning more about each other. It’s another way to use what you’ve learned in real-life situations and build fluency naturally!
